Wyndhamvale U/18 Girls Complete 2017 Undefeated After Winning Grand Final
The Wyndhamvale Under 18 Girls were crowned 2017 Premiers after defeating Spotswood by 19 points.
After a nervous start, the Falcons settled into the game to dominate across all positions on the field. Sharnie Whiting kicked the first goal of the match, but the team's momentum was stopped when Falcons' Fullback, Scarlett Saxon-Jones was knocked out and seriously injured. The game was delayed for more than an hour waiting for an ambulance to arrive and ferry Scarlett to hospital.
Once play recommenced, Wyndhamvale's defence held strong, and Spotswood never really threaten to score during play. Wyndhamvale held a 10 point lead going into the main break. Whiting slotted her second goal in the third quarter, while Spotswood's only score for the match came from a free kick which resulted in a goal.
By the fourth quarter, the Falcons superior fitness began to show. It was not long before Sharnie Whiting kicked her third goal to put the game beyond doubt. For her three goal effort, Sharnie was awarded with the Player of the Match Medal. Phoebe Haig was awarded the Werribee Football Club Harder Worker award for her role in the midfield.
The win was a fitting end to an undefeated season which the Wyndhamvale Falcons U18 Girls had dominated from start to finish.
Scarlett Saxon-Jones was released from hospital later that evening, and is on the way to making a full recovery.
